STORIES BEAT STUFF, HANDS DOWN.

Stories beat stuff. Three words that ring so true.

I had made a promise to myself when I turned 21, that I’d take any opportunity I had to travel and see the world. New York, Paris, Rome.. I’ve got all the major cities of the world on my list, but sometimes we often forget that there is still much to explore still in the cities closer to us!

Just a short plane ride away from Melbourne and I’d find myself in the wonderful Kiwi land of New Zealand. You’re thinking: lots of green, peaceful landscapes, maybe a cow or two.. Word has it that it also is a place where you can do all things thrilling – skydiving, bungee jumping, glacier climbing, even strapping yourself in an oversized ball for a roll down the hill!

New Zealand Tourism is currently running a little travel competition, for a chance to win one of two amazing trips of a lifetime. This video sums up the exciting adventures of the trip that I have chosen - Winter Highlife. With flights, accommodation, ski passes and even the option of jet boating and skydiving, it certainly packs a punch!

It was 12 years ago now that I first experienced being in the snow. As a little 9 year old I was eager and enthusiastic to get my skis on and race around the slopes. I thought I had picked up the basics pretty well and loved imitating the pro’s – I loved whizzing down the runs on my own after ski school, much to the alarm of my mother waiting at the bottom of the slopes! I had not a worry in the world, and found real joy in feeling the wind against my face as I (skillfully) maneuvered my way around. I’d give anything to feel that again.

It’s been a good number of years since I was last there. I certainly had more of an adventurous spirit when I was younger (not that I’m that old now, but you know) – I would have jumped at any opportunity to go rock-climbing, rafting and if it were possible, ice-climbing. Also on my to-do list was jumping off a plane at 5000 feet.

Nowadays, I’m a little over-reliant on technology and honestly wonder if I’d be able to function for a couple of days without my MacBook and iPhone. I ashamedly admit that I have officially gotten old and lazy, spend a little too much time online window-shopping, and that the most adrenaline rush I get is from performing on stage. So, I think it’s high time I got a kick, push and shove to DO SOMETHING - jump in the snow, off a plane, to get my heart-pumping again and experience all that is life. While I can't offer any life crystals like the guy in the above video, I would readily trade my trusty Apple devices and overflowing wardrobe, to awaken my inner adventurous being that has been dormant for so long, for the ultimate trip of a lifetime with my closest friends to New Zealand!

Lift a finger to vote for me at here and you’ll be in the running to win flights for 2 to New Zealand yourself! You could even enter the competition yourself or check out the other entries on Facebook.
