Peacock-Inspired

To be perfectly honest, I have never been very good at dressing up for themed parties. You know, the ones with creative costume ideas like 'something starting with P' or 'childhood heroes' or 'nursery rhymes'.. I can't even come up with that many themes. I once went for Red Riding Hood as my childhood hero (not sure if that even qualifies), started with a red blazer, couldn't find a dress to match, and ended up wearing these floral jeans.. I promise I tried..

Sportsgirl Maxi; Zara Glitter Heels; Assorted Wrist Stuff; MAC 'Prolong' Lipcreme

An event over the weekend went with 'Trapped in the Zoo' and called for 'elegance with a touch of wildness'. I left the outfit-brainstorming a little too late and wasn't about to turn up with a wildly-teased lioness hairdo, and couldn't find a dramatic black swan get-up.. For some reason then I turned to peacock feathers for inspiration, or at least the gorgeous mix of emerald greens I had in my mental image. Lo and behold, I walked right into the Sportsgirl sale and found this lovely maxi. Peacock-inspired, I say - score!

Slipped on some bracelets with hints of gold and turquoise, as well as my beloved Zara shoes. I love that these shoes have just the perfect amount of shimmer, without being too yellowy gold and in your face. They seem to be a little tricky to photograph though so I will try again, very soon!

Stay tuned for news about the ACTUAL event I was headed to!

  2. Themed event is always a bit of a hit and miss for me. As I never know how much effort I should put in when trying to put together something. What happened in the past is that I put in a lot of effort dressing up, rock up to the event, and everyone is half-ass dressed, leaving me looking like I just came back from a circus performance :S Or when I don't put in that much effort, then everyone else end up going all out for their costume, and I still end up looking like an idiot. Just can't win.

However, I think your outfit has struck the balance perfectly, as there is enough to resemble the Peacock look your going for, but also not too over the top :)
